+1 Blond Loser Secret Dork
The rest of the New Warriors shut up, it's a total secret.
Hi everyone! I'm Marie, and I have come to mash another Marvel superhero character into this DC-based game as proof that App This Plz sometimes works!
I'll be bringing you another New Warrior, Speedball/Robbie Baldwin. He's from the end of the most recent volume, because that's the closest to happy and healthy he's been in 9 years, and I didn't want to pull from that far because New Kid Nova is here (Hey, Sam, what's up?). It would also make him way younger than I would like.
So Robbie is the cool Warrior nowadays, he's the funny cute one all the X-girls ask about, but he's actually carting around a lot of baggage due to the events before, during, and after Civil War that are too convoluted to get into in an intro post. He likes to act like it almost never happened, especially around teammates, so it's probably best to leave the full story out of.
The short of it is that Robbie has a history of self harm. I must ask all of you to head over to his permissions post and let me know if you want me to keep him away from your character entirely, to never mention it (rare anyway), or what would work best for you. If, if, if it does, with express consent, it will still have massive warnings on it.
In case anyone is curious, he's coming in with his standard power set of bouncy kinetic shield and energy bubbles. The post-Stamford, pain-fueled power is gone. I have not yet worked out how he'll discover that.
I imagine I'll be hearing from some of you to work stuff out, as needed.
Also, my flight home from Dragon*Con takes off in about 40 minutes. I'll be incommunicado until about midnight.
ETA: my Plurk is seemarierun

But yes, welcome!! It's Trap, and I just play Superboy here. I can't wait to play with you again...!

I am certainly hoping to live up to these expectations.
no subject
Hi! I'm Sam, and...I play Sam. (Sad coincidences.) And a few other losers. I look forward to shenanigans!
(I am shooting you a plurk add, mine's estamir, but if you don't want a mod in your space just ignore it, no hard feelings. o7 )

I've never had this many New Warriors in a game with me.
I'm trapped on a taxi-Img plane but I'll add you to Plurk when I'm waiting for my connection.

I'm really psyched to toss Rich at Robbie.
I friended you on plurk but same deal as Sam, if you'd prefer to not have a mod up in your grill, it's fine if you don't want to friend back.

Before I throw up some sort of post tomorrow (I'm traveling tonight), we should probably maybe discuss the last two times Robbie and Rich met. I'm not sure if the next-to-last one needs discussing.
There was the whole. Fight thing. That happened during his Thunderbolts stint, which was really really awful all around, and I blame it on mutual PTSD.
But! The last time they were together was actually during his stint at Avengers Academy. Rich, Vance, and Robbie were having a guys night out, when Angel showed up. It was in a mini-series called "I am an Avenger". Her and Vance got pulled into a pocket universe. It's implied that Robbie and Rich text them multiple times, assuming they went off on a smooch fest or something. SO. My question is: what do you think they did that night?
I'm at an airport. This is clearly important SAVE ME FROM BOREDOM.
no subject
Just kidding. Seriously, though, I think all four of us NW players are some of the only ones that play these characters. We're all elusive mystical creatures.
And I know which ones you're talking about! With the Nova appearance, I totally agree about the Thunderbolts fight. I kinda figure that Robbie being Penance just reinforced Rich's feeling that the world had gone irreparably wrong, because any world that would beat someone like Robbie up that badly couldn't be right. (Especially since Rich thinks the fault lies fully on Nitro and that it's just superhero hubris for the other heroes to think everything would've magically been okay if the NW had done something different. Sometimes the bad guys win and good people die, because the bad guys were stronger or smarter -- or unexpectedly juicing. Shit happens and it's tragic but what're you gonna do?)
As far as that one, Rich fully forgives Robbie for the fight because he knows he was bonkers and he kinda just mentally checked out himself. But naturally he refuses to forgive himself for leaving Robbie like that and not just kidnapping him and dragging him to get mental help or something, because even though Rich was also really mentally ill he won't acknowledge he had any mental anything going on. So Rich will probably be (annoyingly) overprotective and vaguely guilty in game sometimes.
As for I am an Avenger, I figure after Robbie and Rich were like "whoooooooo" over Vance and Angel disappearing, that they went barhopping and goofed around the whole night. And that Robbie was one of the last friends Rich ever hung out with on Earth before he died. Which was a kind of comforting thing when he bit it. His last time home on Earth he got to hang with his friends and actually have fun for a night. And got to see that Robbie was vaguely okay..er. Okayer than he'd been before.
no subject
As far as the first one, yeeeah. It's probably for the best if Rich keeps all Stamford opinions to himself, although I don't care if he doesn't. I wouldn't play Robbie if I was afraid of having him mentally shit all over himself because he still reminds Rich of Stamford. Rob will outwardly agree with Rich, of course. It's his M.O. Never trust Robbie when he's 100% agreeable; there should always be some rebellious pushback or at least a joke.
Incidentally, I think I'm going to have Robbie take whatever indication of Rich being here that he first gets as proof that another of his friends is alive - everyone come look he has four living friends now that still talk to him.
Because I don't think the new team has *quite* crossed over into friends with him, and because he'll be so damn happy while the misunderstanding happens. I'll just be over here, lining up this fragile heart under this anvil. Don't run with those scissors.
Robbie feels guilty over the fight, still, despite the air being clear between them. He had convictions, before that happened. He used to know that he was a good friend and a good person, and saying sorry doesn't excuse putting one of your best friends through a wall. You know he probably blames himself for Rich dying. He should've been able to convince him to stay on Earth, and then it wouldn't have happened... Or something. Everything else is his fault.
As for the overprotectiveness, Robbie will kind of hate it, particularly if Vance's player agrees with my interpretation that Vance has essentially been babysitting Robbie since the Initiative. He won't push back, though, because he's terrified they'll demand proof that he doesn't need it. He can't stomach screwing up in their eyes again.
Nice to see we're on the same page about I Am an Avenger as well. I think Robbie didn't even have to fake happy that night, either. I'll go further and say when they ran out of bars to hop to, Robbie probably suggested Rich crash at the Academy because drinking and flying is bad, kids. Lucky charms and burnt eggs for breakfast. Just to give Rich a really nice time, if you want. And Robbie was - okayer, at that point. Definitely better at maintaining the best imitation of himself, and definitely not in as much pain.
no subject
Also I'm laughing because Rich, Robbie, and Vance are all apparently giant piles of self-blame and "I failed my friends noooo." Vance in game has blamed himself for not being there at Stamford, Rich also blames himself despite knowing logically that if he hadn't gone to war that Earth would've been destroyed and also blames himself for not dragging Robbie away from the Thunderbolts, Robbie apparently blames himself for basically everything...
Clearly, all of them need Namorita to show up to slap some sense into them all.
SPEAKING of that, Rich would want Robbie to know he yanked Nita out of the timesteam from before she died, whoops, that happened. I am fairly sure that he would've told her about Stamford because she's a smart cookie and would've probably wondered why Rich felt the need to grab her if future Namorita was still alive. Not sure how you want that to go down but Rich wouldn't want to put it off forever.
no subject
Rich no. The last time someone told my Robbie in a meme that Namorita was alive, it nearly put Robbie in shock. (Seriously, do it. Robbie will cry though). I leave the when and where to you.
no subject
BTW, I mostly play Rich but I meme and psl some of the other NW, so I have icons made for most of them. (That's why I was in my old Robbie account a minute ago because I was resaving them since I lost the folder somehow). Do you want some extra icons?
no subject
I thought it was so I'd be breathing even harder into my paper bag about playing him when I'm out of practice. And yes, that would be nice. I'm still trapped in travel mode, so I haven't been able to upgrade his account to paid, but he does have 49 at least.
no subject
And here!
Congrats, you are now the proud owner of 94 new icons. Mostly the AA, Fear Itself, and I Am an Avenger stuff. If you ever want other NW icons, too, lemme know. If I don't already have a journal or icons for the character, I just like iconning.
no subject
Thank you! I admit at some point I just got so frustrated with the weird art and constant goggles face that I was like "whatever he's got 49 icons. I'm done."
Fear Itself and I Am an Avenger had some nice art though. I thought everyone looked perfect in IAAA. They looked the right age, they were dressed perfectly, IMO, for what they'd wear out, it was just really pretty art.

Hovering, though. Vance has definitely hovered. And been protective.
no subject
Anyway, Robbie has not complained about it to Vance, really. One person doing it is fine, especially Vance. Because, in Robbie's eyes, that's the person he's always been: the one who does what's best. He can't fault him for hovering; Robbie would do it, too, if their situations were reversed.
And he really appreciated not having to be alone anymore, but I don't think he ever said thank you for it.
no subject
And he's also say that Robbie doesn't need to thank him for it because...well. That's what friends do, you know? And Robbie was there when Vance had his issues as well. (Still has his issues. A couple of the events so far have done their best to put Vance back in the mindset around his father's death.)
Robbie arriving means that there's DEFINITELY going to be a New Warriors pizza night in the Crash Pad. (That's the area they gave Vance in the Habitat area. So he's thrilled to be able to share that with Sam, too.)
By the by, I'm Shard. :) The local Vance player, of course. :)
no subject
For the Habitat area, I put in for Mount Wundagore, complete with
genocide planning roomhang out room. Also, I think I snuck in the Stamford Memorial as well, "due to a misunderstanding for how Mount Wundagore can exist in the same space as something else". No one said no, anyway, so that's now the lowest basement. But the Crash Pad, wow. I think that might hit Robbie as hard as seeing Rich and hearing about Nita (Robbie is going to apparently spend the first few days/weeks emotionally overloaded). He's going to stuff his face with pizza, so he doesn't have a chance to say something stupid like how his best Christmases were there.
Hello hello! I feel as if I have played with you in some game before, but I'm not really certain. The name is familiar, and that might just be due to Shard the character.
no subject
So many more than twelve, even...Vance doesn't even blame Angel for going off with the X-Men. She has her own life that she has to live and if that means not being a New Warrior right now, then that's what she has to do. One day, they'll be okay with each other again. (Which reminds me. I sort of ignore the whole Ultra Girl debacle. Because that has always stuck me as SO FAR out of character for Vance that it wasn't even funny.)
If he does say something like that, Vance will just defuse it by saying his best Christmases were there, too. Which, you know, has more to do with him being Jewish than anything else. Get everybody to laugh a bit.
It's possible. We may have run across each other in Dear_Multiverse, if you ever tooled around there. That's where the nickname comes from, actually. I used to play Shard there and my AIM handle is LitShard, which just ended up with people calling me Shard most of the time. Also, my actual name is Amanda and there's about a million of those around. I seem to be really good at slightly obscure characters.
no subject
That series should not have ended that soon.Robbie doesn't blame her; he misses her, but it's glaringly obvious that her and Vance are not ready to be around each other all the time yet. We can ignore the Ultra Girl debacle, but you should know in your heart that Robbie cherishes the memory of Angel putting Vance through the punch table. To him, we are now officially at the midpoint of Vangelica: The Rom-Com. She has gone off to find herself after triumphantly putting him through the punch table. They will reunite in the final reel.
Yeah, now I'm going to have to do it, because that would make Robbie laugh, and also be like "You can crack a joke?"
Hm. No, I don't know Dear Multiverse. Maybe I'm just mixing you up with someone. It's nice to meet you, anyway!

I'm Zita and I play this lazy jackass as well as the Master Chief. Welcome aboard! :D

Griiiiiiiiif. I'm currently suffering with North and Maine muses. It's a rough life.
I have a feeling Grif and Robbie will amuse me.

ANYWAY yes come be friends with Grif they can be cool bros who have No Problems Ever™.
Rich is also his best friend here so I'm sure they'll end up hanging out eventually.

Who have No Problems Ever™ and who rarely remember the conversations that they have because who remembers that kind of inanity.
... dude. Uncool. Rich has been definitely trying to replace Robbie, then. Wears orange. Mouthy. Likes to act like a lazy teenager.
