[MOD PLOT] A SCANDAL IN GALAXIA

The plot is up!

HERE!

The Legionnaires will get a chance to foil the assassination attempt and then be split into pairs and groups for the other parts of the plot. Keep an eye on the OOC comm for those split ups and the plotting posts that go with them when it's time.

For now, the characters will be dealing with the assassination attempt and rescuing Enkemet and then things will split up from there.

BASIC INFO

What history would the Legionnaires know about the Second Galaxy?

The Legionnaires will have been taught the history of the Legion and UP's contact with the Second Galaxy. After a disaster with a space rift near Earth, a group of Legionnaires were lost outside the universe. One of them, Element Lad, got them into the material universe again (in the Second Galaxy), but was thrown free of their ship so that he was stuck in the past at the beginning of the universe, with his powers making it so he was unable to die.

After billions of years alone, Element Lad went insane and used his elemental powers to create and destroy whole species, becoming the Progenitor, the genocidal dictator of the Second Galaxy. In the modern day, the Legionnaires that were trapped in the Second Galaxy protected many aliens from the Progenitor's forces and eventually confronted him and one of their own, Livewire, nearly died killing him. The other Legionnaires were then able to find a way home after Brainiac 5 invented the threshold gates.

The denizens of the Second Galaxy are now aware that the Progenitor was once a Legionnaire but after hearing his story, they understand how someone so horrible could be related to the Legion, and don't hold the rest of the Legion to blame and are grateful that they freed the Second Galaxy from his wrath. They even pity the Legionnaires for having had to put down one of their own.

They are naturally wary of outsiders, however, and prefer to deal with the Legion in their diplomatic dealings rather than the UP as a whole, because the Legion has proven to have their best interests at heart.

Nearly every species in the Second Galaxy is one of the Progenitor's creations and many of them live a nomadic lifestyle because they used to have to be on the run from the Progenitor's forces. Even the Wayhome is a mobile artificial homeworld.

Are there any conflicts on the Wayhome that could affect the mystery?

Currently, the Progeny, the ruthless insectoid footsoldiers of the Progenitor that were the last obedient species he created, are living in the Wayhome. After some time, they've been allowed to live on the surface instead of the bilgedecks and some are starting to accept them, especially since many of the Progeny are too young to have served the Progenitor now. Others, however, still hate them for all the bloodshed their species caused while serving the Progenitor.

Enkemet has made decisions to show the Progeny mercy and try to further integrate them into society. So far these efforts have been fairly successful and many Progeny are very loyal to her as a leader and grateful she's improving their quality of life.

Some Kwai and other aliens are also militantly against dealings with the Legion and the UP due to their ties with the Progenitor.

What are the Legionnaires arguing for?

The Legionnaires must renew the contract with the Kwai for them to help the UP navigate the threshold system. The Kwai enjoy this travel and see it as payment enough, but the agreement does have to be renegotiated every few years. If the negotiation falls through, the UP will be reduced to a standstill as they'll have no way to navigate the D-space in the threshold gates. They'd be stuck using conventional star drives, which take weeks, months, or even years for transport between worlds.

The UP also wants to open more trade, specifically offering advanced medical technologies in exchange for the organic, multi-purpose building material the Kwai make, called useweave. They also want to start more minor trade on things like food stuffs, spices, fashion, etc.
