RESISTANCE IS FUTILE [modplot/ooc post/signups]

CW: This plot has a lot of body horror, just a heads up. If it's not your cup of tea, you can scroll down to the opt-out section for opt-out options.
Without Brainiac 5's knowledge or permission, the Coluan government has engineered a child from their copies of his genetic material, to further the Brainiac family line for Colugov's use. Brainiac 6, 2 years-old, mentally compromised by an emotion-inhibiting device, and bitter from the mistreatment of himself and other Brainiacs, has turned on his home planet Colu and banded together with his time-traveling grand-daughter, Brainiac 8 -- who has been impersonating Legionnaire Babbage since "his" return to the Legion -- to unleash his wrath on Colu and the United Planets. Though only a child, Brainiac 6 has all the destructive potential of his father, and thanks his emotional inhibitor, no capacity for empathy or remorse.
To enact their retribution on Colu and the UP by converting all UP citizens to creatures similar to what B6 sees as his father's greatest creation - the Roboticans - the Brainiacs have released a techno-organic nano-virus that converts organic life to mindless zombie robots that are part of a collective completely dedicated to consuming and converting every organic in the UP. After the UP is roboticized, the Brainiacs plan to start destroying and reconstructing the multiverse in their image.
The only beings immune to the nano-virus are the Roboticans, due to their

SETTING
The plot will take place over the course of two IC days and be one of the widest-spanning plots in the course of the game. With Legion World crippled due to Brainiac 8's attacks and Brainy's technology going on defensive shutdown, much of the UP going "dark" due to the Brainaics compromising the Coluan technology that is threaded throughout the UP, and the rapid spread of infection on Colu, this plot will affect most of the game universe.
Currently, the Brainiacs have opened massive threshold gates up and moved Earth, Robotica, and Colu together to form a massive Brainiac emblem. Because they're just that extra.
Fortunately, Legion World and the Lunar Debris Field successfully stayed in orbit around Earth after the move, and the energy channels connecting the three worlds are keeping Earth and Colu from dying off from a lack of heat and light right away. But the Legionnaires only have so long before both planets can only sustain machine life.
ZOMBIE MECHANICS

The robo-zombies the Legion is fighting against are a formidable threat. The nanovirus spreads through simple skin contact and converts organic life to inorganic life. Each zombie only has very small bits of organic material left.
The robo-zombies can run at fast speeds, form sharp claws and teeth, and use swarm tactics to overwhelm their prey and infect them. It takes considerable effort to completely destroy them. If a single nanite survives with an individual robo-zombie's coding, they can rebuld themselves, including their organic parts. However heavy damage that requires them to reform or head shots that damage their cortical processors can slow them down.
Due to the catastrophic nature of the threat and the fact they reform anyway, Legionnaires are free to go for kill shots and have it be within Legion protocol.
While transuits can provide some protection, they can still tear or be punctured with enough pressure, making it so that Legionnaires can be infected if this artificial "skin" is broken by teeth or claws, much like in normal zombie media. When someone is exposed, conversion usually happens within less than a minute and the resulting drone is largely amnesiac and incapable of free will. However, the nanites do still contain a copy of the infected beings's organic form, memories, and personality. At the end of the plot, when the cure is found, the robozombies will reform into people and turn organic again. This means that any players that want to have their character infected can do so and have their character convert back at the end of the plot.
Sometimes if infection is on an extremity, it can take longer to convert the victim's whole body.
NPC SURPRISE
For any part of the plot, if players would like an RNG generated mod surprise to show up, we can do that. These enemies and challenges won't be npced by the mods as they'll usually be threats or events instead of actual characters, but we'll make up something interesting to toss into a thread at an unexpected time.
PLOT PARTS
These plot parts aren't necessarily chronological. These are just different parts of the plot you can choose from.
PART 1: THE ZOMBIE WAR
Legionnaires must help evacuate Colu and fight against the spread of the robo-zombies. Colugov has shut down all their threshold gates and the Brainiacs' threshold gate has been destroyed by an offensive virus, making it so they need time to build a new one.
This means that the robo-zombies are trying to swarm important targets like threshold gates that would take them off-world and Coluan military installations with WMDs. They're also swarming population centers to add to their zombie ranks. Legionnaires will have a wide variety of threats to potentially tackle.
A. EVACUATIONS
Jumpships and emergency T-gates have been set up to help evacuate Colu but they've run into plenty of hurdles. Colu is one of the most densely populated worlds in the UP, with its inhabitants crowded together in sprawling Mega-cities. These urban centers are filled with massive habitation towers and underground complexes, all interconnected. While this means that most Coluans have exit points to run through, it's extremely difficult to block the spread of the zombies. This means that the defenses of the Coluan home defense forces, battle drones, are becoming quickly overwhelmed.
Legionnaires can help defend Coluans evacuating from certain sectors, attack robozombie barricades to free trapped clusters of citizens, and defend refugee evac points to help Coluans escape, so they're not added to the robo-zombie collective.
B. PROTECTION
Some vital targets on Colu need ongoing protection. Various labs and weapons depots need to be defended so dangerous technology and weapons don't get assimilated and taken by the robo-zombies. This includes dangerous, contagious diseases being researched in the CCFD (the Coluan Centers for Disease Control) and caches of chemical and bioweapons.
C. RETRIEVAL
In areas that are already over-run, useful technology (like types of nanotech) can potentially be retrieved to use against the Brainiacs and robo-zombie forces. Extraction teams will need to attempt to fight their way into labs that are deep in robo-zombie territory to break into these secure facilities, obtain the tech, and survive the trek back from beyond enemy lines.
This tech is vitally important as it may potentially allow the Legion to develop better offensive weaponry against the robozombies, better defensive measures, or even find a cure for the nanovirus.
Legionnaires might also want to invade overtaken hospitals to steal medical supplies and equipment for the people who have been injured without being infected in all the chaos. Colu's reliance on nanotech surgeons and surgical robots mean surgeons are few and far between, and support from the rest of the UP is limited due to the Brainiacs' interference.
D. WILDCARD
Feel free to make entirely new zombie scenarios up! You can ask the mods questions in the comments below to figure out what is possible.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: Anyone that signs up for the plot can participate in these parts and make up any scenario they like. No RNG is required and players can run as many missions with as many characters as they want. Those that run extraction missions that involve salvaging technology can comment to a subthread in the comments below and receive useful weapons and tech that the entire group can then use against the zombies.
PART 2: BRAINIAC ATTACK
On IC Day 2, A small team of (5) will face the Brainiacs themselves, after finding a robo-zombie portal to their spaceship lair. On board the ship, this team can use a number of different measures to fight the Brainiacs, including turning their own systems against them, killing or freeing the sentient AI they're using to help coordinate the zombies, freeing Brainiac 5, or destroying or introducing the cure (if it's found) to the nanite factories creating more nanites for the cause.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: This group will be RNGed. Any character that got the Activity Bonus the last Full Activity Check or any new character (ie one that is new enough to have not had to provide more than check-in to any ACs yet) may sign up for the RNG.
PART 3: THE REJECT PILE
One of Chronoblivion's Heralds will be taking advantage of the chaos to attack Legion World. After gaining access to Brainiac 5's cache of rejected experiments awaiting disposal, he'll unleash them on the ship. Characters will have to deal with this dangerous technology (which will be RNGed in a subthread below) and come up with a plan to defeat the herald.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: This will be happening between robo-zombie missions, on the first IC day of plot, so any character that's participating in the "Resistance Is Futile" plot can join in, and treat it as if their character is resting between missions. If you'd like your character to be participating in the overall plot but not this part, you can handwave them as off Legion World on a mission.
TECHNOLOGY ISSUES
The good thing is that Brainiac 5 has anticipated being used against the team and has provided Invisible Kid (unofficial co-head of the labs) and the current acting Legion Leader an emergency cutoff that shuts down use of any of his technology on board that can be dangerously compromised.
The downside is this means that most of the tech on Legion World has gone black, leaving only life support and vital systems operational, all of them running on low-energy backup modes. Even gravlifts and other transportation through the ship will be very limited, causing travel through the ship to sometimes involve crawling through engineering tunnels and opening manual locks on doors.
GEAR
Omnicoms: While character will retain their omnnicoms, they'll find them with limited functionality, via a much more unreliable but more easily encrypted subdimensional ethernet network. Characters can ICly change what network the omnicoms use if they want to move to something they've secured themselves.
Telepathic Earplugs: The telepathic earplugs will be nonfunctional and replaced with low-tech but less hackable primitive translator commbadges.
Flight rings: All flight rings will be completely nonfunctional.
Threshold Gates: Due to the threshold gates being an invention of Brainiac 5, many of them will be compromised and offline. Only emergency gates -- reinforced and protected by Brainiac 5 himself from his own potential future interference -- will be in use. These gates will be slightly unreliable and finicky, prone to transporting people to coordinates that are slightly off. The team's AIs can potentially help increase accuracy by protecting and reinforcing the t-gates' coding.
Transuits: Even the transuits will be compromised, causing the team to revert to an earlier prototype that's flawed but harder to mess with by external means. While the normal transuits can usually provide hours of clean air, air pressure simulation, and temperature control, these transuits are disposable, and can only supply an hour of life support before failing and needing to be swapped for an entirely new suit.
NON-MISSION THREADS
Characters don't have to limit threads to just missions. The plot will take place over the course of 2 IC days, and players are allowed to set threads on the damaged, blacked out Legion World, such as threads where their characters rest or regroup. Characters can help refugees that Legion World is protecting or relocating, scientists can work on the zombie nanovirus to find a cure, and AIs can also thread out protecting Legion World from virus threats if the players want, among other things.
Outbreaks of nanozombies may potentially happen on Legion World and need to be contained, due to evacuees passing through possibly hiding slower-moving infections.
THE CURE
There are several ways to find the cure to the virus, and the players can decide what option the characters will go with.
Defeating the Brainaics themselves and freeing Brainiac 5 can end the spread of the virus quickly. However, certain choices in the part of the plot that deals with the Brainaics themselves can lead to a quicker fix. Scientist characters and AIs can also potentially find a cure and make it easier for the Brainaics to be defeated by the team facing them.
Feel free to ask us in the mod question subthread below what might be possible for your character to do.
NPCS
THE BRAINAICS
Brainiac 5: Brainiac 5 has been roboticized and converted into a living computer, used against his will to process information and scenarios to help the Brainiacs conquer the rest of the UP. This means that the Brainiacs have access to all the knowledge and information Brainy has about Legionnaires, including any personnel files Brainy has read, or combat practice scenarios he's run or monitored. All of Brainy's tech has been shut down by an emergency shut off and had other systems replace it, since it would be easily compromised if left in operation.
Brainiac can be freed if he's removed from the throne he's been placed in, and while he's been roboticized, unlike the other robo-zombies he's been allowed to retain his personality.
Brainiac 6: The genetically-engineered son of Brainiac 5, Brainiac 6 is a deeply disturbed individual who feels that Colu deserves to be punished for their crimes against the Brainiac line. While smarter than his father in some ways (such as having greater creativity and ingenuity), Brainiac 6 has several limitations. While armed with basic protective shields, his age means that he's unable to act as a physical threat, and due to being a child, sometimes his reasoning is simplistic and flawed.
He also has an emotional inhibitor that makes it so he's unable to feel emotion, which interferes with his reasoning, as he's unable to feel healthy caution or fear. Removal of the inhibitor could potentially stop him in his tracks, as he's unused to dealing with emotions.
Brainiac 8 The time-traveling great-grand-daughter of Brainiac 5 and grand-daughter of Brainiac 6, B8 is from a possible future where Coluans have reverted to being machine life and devastated the rest of the galaxy. Her efforts in the plot are meant to ensure that timeline comes to pass.
At one point, B8 went to 21st century Earth and created an innocent alternate personality called Indigo to act as a sleeper agent. She was a member of the superhero team known as the Outsiders, along with several former Teen Titans like Nightwing. After teaming up with Lex Luthor, she attacked and nearly destroyed the Outsiders and Teen Titans, but was defeated in the end by the innocent Indigo personality, who stopped her long enough for one of the Outsiders to defeat her.
This version of B8 was a personality copy sent to one of Lex Luthor's labs upon her defeat. She was freed recently in the 31st century when archaeologists unearthed the lab. After downloading the memories of former Legion Cadet Babbage, the archaeologists' security expert, she killed the entire archaeology team and used them to infiltrate the Legion by pretending to be Babbage.
B8 is a formidable foe with many powers. Expert-level hacking, mid-level super strength, enhanced durability (but not invulnerability), 12 difference tracks of consciosuness, wifi connection, minor shapeshifting, energy blasts, electromagnetic control (generating EMPs, magnetizing things like walls and vehicles, broad spectrum scanning for life signs and lifeforms, creating electrical feedback in people's nervous systems), flight, force fields, teleportation (though this takes time to kick in), and sonic attacks.
OPT OUTS
Though the plot is wide-sweeping there are many potential ways to opt out.
ICly, for those that don't want to participate, their character can participate in "An Eye For An Eye" which runs at the same time as this plot, and find themselves stuck on Takron Galtos fighting the Spectre and having to survive. Players can also run private plots set during this time, that are set elsewhere in the UP, or handwave their character as participating in a mission on the fringes of UP space, where they would find themselves locked out of communication and transport with and to Legion World, with no way of knowing what's going on.
OOCly, to have ways of playing that can avoid the plot, alongside player plots, players are allowed to "bendytime" game threads so they're set before the plot, as a way of resuming normal RP.
PLOT START
The main part of plot will go up: 8/9/17
Sign up end dates for specific parts will be listed in their subthreads below.
