MOD ANNOUNCEMENT - GAME TIMELINE

With June upon us, that puts the game halfway through its second year, so the mods want to let the playerbase know what's what for the future.

GAME TIMELINE

The Legion has always been intended to be a short-run game, lasting 1-2 years, and come January 2018 (the 2nd anniversary of the game) we will be pushing the game toward endgame. The mods discussed it and endgame will likely be run in February or March 2018. (We'll know as we get a little closer since some things do depend on how some of the mods' RL situations pan out over the next year). Endgame itself will not be particularly long, as the mods will thread the metaplot through normal RP like it's been through the course of the game. There may be a bit of ramping up of tensions right before endgame, but for the most part, the characters will be able to equip themselves and be ready for the final showdown over the course of the next 6-7 months of normal playing.

Endgame itself will likely take 1-2 months to be played out and will involve a few parts/phases, though it shouldn't be much more complex than a typical gamewide plot.

POST ENDGAME

After endgame is complete, the game will have two sandboxes. One will be an anything goes "freeform" sandbox where people can play out as many different alternate PSLs as they please, and in these they will have the freedom to godmode anything they want, even the destruction of the Legion, or wide-sweeping events in the UP. This sandbox is essentially for PSLs, and will allow the typical unmoderated freedom of PSLs, to simply provide a centralized place for them if people would prefer that over private sandboxes or journals.

Another will be a sandbox for things to stay in a shared continuity, aka a "continuity" sandbox. This will have fairly rigid rules regarding the setting and npcs to allow players to have a neutral ground, and to allow for the mods to no longer need to be involved. For instance, plots that alter or affect Legion World itself will no longer be allowed since it'd be difficult to allow those to be run without an npc reaction. Universal threats like Chronoblivion will also not be allowed. Anything that doesn't fit within the rules of the continuity sandbox will, however, be allowed to be played in the freeform sandbox (or private PSL, natch).

For the "continuity" sandbox, it'll take the mods some time to iron out all the specifics, but some the things we have in mind are:

  • The main metaplot will be over and no new one will replace it

  • The npc Legion will be restored, making it so the PCs are no longer needed for keeping law and order in the game universe

  • However, any PCs that choose to remain in the game universe may. They can be active-duty, part-time duty, or reservist Legionnaires, or they can leave the Legion and get full UP citizenship, join the Science Police, etc.

  • Everyone's timelines will be "locked" so that time will pass normally in their home universes when they're in the game universe, and vice versa. If there is a cast, this canon point will be typically the latest canonpoint a member of the cast is from. Those from earlier points that would prefer to not canon update to that point can have their version of a character be from a close AU

  • For situations where players would like to allow their character to go back to their canon at the latest canon point of a castmate, but would have difficulty because their character died and them surviving would alter the timeline, Brainiac 5 can help fake their character's death to keep time in order, allowing them to survive and simply go home

  • PCs will be able to retain their powers or regain their usual canon powers

  • PCs will be able to travel back and forth to their own worlds and the worlds of other characters on a stable and permanent basis, through Legion World's threshold hub, allowing further adventures. The Time Trapper will provide them the ability to do this with semi-mystical glowing "brands" on their bodies they can summon to open multiversal gates

  • All PCs (provided they don't do anything evil to cause the team to renege) will retain the status of honorary Legionnaire, regardless of whether or not they stay in the game universe or on the team, and can opt for the npc Legionnaires to occasionally help with issues in their home universes if they want (however, the npcs will still follow Legion protocol). This help can be handwaved and the mods will provide a guide on what's a-okay with that to allow the mods to no longer need to play the npcs

  • If PC Legionnaires help their friends in their home universes, however, they don't have to follow Legion protocol as long as the npc Legionnaires are not called in. The Legion will adopt a "what happens in Vegas" policy with other universes. (Unless the Legionnaires commit genocide or something extreme)

  • Characters that undergo any villainous actions that the Legion sees before or during endgame will not be allowed on the team or allowed to use the multiversal threshold gates on Legion World. However, the Time Trapper will still give them the brands and allow them to escape the Legion. They'll find their own dimensional travel hub to use, allowing them to still be played with others in villainous or neutral roles

  • The network will work between universes

  • If players would like to allow events or plots to happen without 30 Legionnaires being dropped on the problem when they realistically would want to help, there will be a mechanic of "multiversal cosmic storms" that sometimes block the portal brands from working, or block omnicom communication. Convenient for ooc plotting, very inconvenient for the characters

For OOC mechanics, things will be set up to avoid the need for any mod interaction. For instance, the Taken and Contact Lists will be set up more like the permissions post, where things aren't in order but players can post and edit their own comments with their information freely. People will have to search a little, but this way the information can be posted without any need for the mods to update things.

APP CLOSURES

While app closures and openings may happen through the rest of the game based on the player cap, the game will not reach its permanent app closure until immediately before endgame. Instead, we'll simply advertise the game's timeline in the game info. We feel it is up to each individual apper as to how much time they feel they need to still be able to enjoy the game.

QUESTIONS

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments below. Please keep in mind that the details on things like the sandboxes are not yet finalized. It'll take time for the mods to iron things out and figure out what form the game will have after endgame. However, if you have any other questions about endgame and the game's timeline, feel free to ask.
