New Player Wait Queue Proposal
Hey there, Legionnaires!
The maintenance of the game's player cap and how we handle opening new app slots when players drop is something that's been a work in progress, that we've been trying to find a good balance with. While our current system allows people to have 24 hours to notify interested parties whenever new player reserves reopen after a closure, it's not ideal for potential new players that look at the game while reserves are closed. They have no way of having a sense of when to look back and see if the game has reopened reserves.
To avoid the need for constantly opening and closing new player reserves, and to make the system a little more predictable, we've decided to move to an app queue system like some other capped games have, where new players are on a waiting list and are given player slots as they become available due to drops.
For current players, nothing will change. If a current player wants to app a new character, they can simply app and the app will be judged within 7 days. Current players will also still be able reserve characters, to dibs them while working on an app.
But for new players, we will now have an app wait queue in place. If a player apps during a time that no player slots are currently open, they will be notified that the app is queued and that they will be contacted when a slot becomes available. When a new player slot has opened up from a drop, we'll comment again, contacting the player to see if they're still interested in the game, and if they are, we'll process the app. A list of queued new player apps will be maintained so that prospective players can get at least some sense of what kind of wait there may be, by at least knowing how many people are in front of them.
As new player reserves will no longer open and close at all, there's now no need for a "soft" cap or "hard" cap -- now we we will simply give new player slots to new players the second they become available. Of the two caps, we've opted to have the game's cap be the higher end, 45 players, as that's what the mods feel we can handle (especially after adding some hands to the mod team).
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to let us know in the comments below. We won't change the app and reserves pages until Tuesday, in case anyone has any concerns with the change they want to discuss.

So yeah! No concerns or anything here, I'm totally down with this. I feel like it'll be a lot more welcoming for potential new players.

But if a slot in that cast opens, someone can app, and apping will reserve the cast slot for them while they're in the wait queue, until their app is eventually processed.
