THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS [info/signups] - modplot

They call her the Queen of Fables. Tsarista, the archetypal Evil Queen, has plagued the Justice League several times in the past, bringing the stories of Earth, Mars, and Krypton to life in an attempt to rule the world. When someone unwittingly releases her from her prison one thousand years later, she reacts with a vengeance, bringing stories to life as she aims for total conquest of Earth...and beyond.
When she's capable of harnessing the power of human imagination and bringing any story to life, can the Legion stand up to this fabricator of fiction? Or will they end up being the 'evil generals' that the so-called Good Queen must conquer to regain what she considers to be her rightful throne?
STORYLAND
After being released from a boring .txt file manual about Windows 95 troubleshooting in the cursed floppy disk that was her last prison, and declaring her intentions to take over the world live on the news, the evil Queen will transform New Metropolis into her new realm. The Legion will be sent in to confront the bubble of altered reality where Tsarista's power is now in sway, and will have to enter it to stop her.
After entering the bubble they'll find themselves in her Storyland, a place where stories come to life and try to make the PCs become subsumed by the scenarios they find themselves in. If any of them are killed or face a "Bad Ending" in their scenario, they will transform and become one of Tsarista's evil generals, and have their powers amped up to incredible levels. She only needs six to unlock her full power and take over Earth -- and beyond. But if the Legionnaires beat all the scenarios that are tossed at them, each defeat will weaken Tsarista until she can eventually be re-imprisoned in some sort of book or data receptacle.
STORYLAND SCENARIOS
The Legionnaires will find themselves wandering from story to story, with the landscape sometimes splitting them up and changing the makeup of the groups they're in. These stories are all ones Tsarista accessed in a massive archive she found in the New Metropolis library, and are comprised mostly of works of literature and pulp fiction from Earth, Krypton, and the rest of the UP.
Players can make up whatever story scenarios they like, and if they want to run multiple scenarios of the same story (such multiple iterations of Lord of the Rings, or Harry Potter, for different groups) they may. Each scenario must be resolved in one of three ways for it to collapse and hurt Tsarista:
The Canon Ending: Characters must undergo actions that can help achieve the canon ending for the story. For instance, someone trapped in a scenario of The Lord of the Rings, may have to help defend Gondor from Mordor's attack, or somehow bring the ring to Mt. Doom. In a typical canon ending, they might do this the exact same way the ending went in the original story.
A Noncanon Ending: Characters may also find an unorthodox way to end the story scenario. For instance, one of the soldiers can opt to simply shoot Voldemort in the head to end a scenario based on Harry Potter, instead of seeking out the canon ending using magic. Or perhaps in a Lord of the Rings scenario, the Legionnaires form a flying batallion that batters their way into Morder to fly the ring into Mt. Doom instead of walking there.
An Escape: Characters can also collapse a story scenario by simply figuring out some clever escape and avoiding the scenario entirely. For instance, someone in an incarnation of Aladdin might simply steal the magic carpet and fly away to the borders of the story. Once they leave them, it will collapse.
ELIGIBLE STORIES
Any written story can be used in a scenario, from classic literature, to fairy tales and folklore stories, to modern books (like Harry Potter), to pulp fiction (like Dick Tracy). More modern stories, such as visual media (like television and movies) are also an option, though the mods would ask that players pick things that might have realistically survived to the 31st century. Players can also make up totally imaginary stories from modern and ancient United Planets media as well.
Stories based on canons of characters currently in the game, or based on the DC Universe will not be usable.
The mods will set up a thread for players to request canons for story scenarios for the mods to approve through the plot.
MORE DETAILS
APPEARANCE
Characters can sometimes change appearance or species when placed in a new setting, if players want. For instance, if they're placed into a magical school, they might all turn into teenagers, or if they're placed into a setting with elves, they may turn into elves. These new forms can potentially come with powers or gifts that the species has in their canon.
POWERS/GEAR/WEAPONS
Players can decide on what powers, weapons, and gear (like flight rings) characters retain in each scenario, to pick what narratively would be the most fun. If you'd prefer your character to keep their shotgun in a Harry Potter scenario, to take out Voldemort the direct way, for instance, they may. If you'd prefer a character be weaponless and forced to pick up a sword from a setting to fight a dragon, you can do that, too. Each scenario can be flexible to allow your character to have what you think would be the most fun.
In scenarios where their game powers are taken away, characters can possibly develop powers native to the story for the duration of the story (such as HP-style magic in a Harry Potter-based scenario). If you'd like, in some scenarios, reality can be so fluid that they can possibly even summon up powers, gear, and weapons completely spontaneously that they didn't have before entering the mission.
Gear like flight rings, transuits, and omnicoms can work or not work in each scenario based on your preference. However, in cases where omnicoms are functional, network functions will only work in the story bubble the character is currently in, and cannot reach other bubbles or the world beyond.
HOW NPCING WILL WORK:
In this plot, characters can either entirely take on the story roles of the original characters (such as Legionnaires becoming the Fellowship of the Ring and taking their roles) or can run into npcs from the stories and have to work beside them. These npcs are not actually alive, and omnicom scans can make it clear they're equivalent to magical hard-light holograms rather than living people, but they can still harry the characters and cause them difficulty, especially enemy npcs. Players are expected to npc their own npcs for their respective stories.
After the characters have defeated all their story bubbles, the mods will npc a weakend Tsarista for her potential capture.
PLOT START
Signup for the plot will be possible until March 22 11:59 PM EST. Plot will be posted that same day.
You may sign up as many characters as you want, and run as many story scenarios as you want. To opt out characters, you can have them be on the "Spies Who Sprocked Us" mission or handwave them on tasks elsewhere.
Requests for canons for stories will be open for the entire course of the plot.
