FLASHPLOT SIGNUPS

Platinum here. So, for those of you who missed the last announcement, we're going to be instituting something called Flashplots. These will be short, simple, optional plots designed to wrap up in less than fifteen posts.

Think of them as short scenes for a single character or a small group of characters. They won't be anything world-shaking, more along the level of running across a mugging, stopping runaway meteor from hitting a ship full of orphans and puppies, pulling people out of a fire, or something like that. In short, they're rather like the establishing character moment of a comic, where the first page or two has them defusing some kind of crisis before moving on to the actual plot.

They'll mostly be designed for one character to handle and we can deal with more, but probably no more than three to a plot for speed reasons. These are, after all, supposed to be short action scenes.

A Flashplot will count as a plot credit for AC purposes.

When you sign up, make a note of whether you're signing up for a single or you're open to share. If you've got a preference for what you'd like your character to do, mention it and I'll work with you. Otherwise, your characters will just go through a short, random adventure designed for them to succeed.

There won't be a permanent sign-up post. There will be a new post up every so often, and I'm probably going to make a Flashplot tag just so players can find the newest one more easily.

Okay, awesome! Are you going to have a limit of how many Flashpoints to run at the same time?

I'm tentatively thinking of only one Flashplot per player at a time. However, unless I find it to be massively overwhelming, I won't be putting a limit on how many are active at once or how many a player can run one after the other.

I'd like to sign Wash up! He'd probably be better for something on the more mundane side of things (mugging, fire rescue, etc), as he's still trying to get accustomed to this whole Congratulations You're A Superhero thing. I'm definitely open to share.

It's v. late right now, let's give it a day or two to see if anyone wants to team up. Otherwise, I might just sling a nighttime bank robbery at Wash.

Do you think he'd get involved in a random mess, or would the Science Police or the bank itself have to request Legion intervention?

He'd definitely get involved in a random mess; the thing is, he's a lot more likely to be aimlessly wandering the halls of Legion World in the middle of the night than he is to be on the planet. If there was a request for Legion intervention, he'd be ready and willing in the middle of the night; if it's a random mess, it would work a little better to have it in the middle of the day.

...I may be overthinking this.

Hey, we're still in the 'figuring out how well this will work' stages. I don't want to throw up a scenario and have you bend over backwards to make it work.

So, how's this? Mooks toss up some kind of communications jamming field. Legionnaire on Monitor Duty notices, alerts Wash since he's marked as still being active. Y'know, suspicious information blackout in blah area, Science Police are busy elsewhere, would you mind checking it out? Wash bips down to the scene, finds the bank with a hole in the side and sees a hovercar driving away at speed. Cue chase (or just shooting out the hover bits, whichever), a bit of resistance from the thugs, and Wash thumping someone that isn't Pidge.

Short, sweet, and hopefully enjoyable for you.

Can he catch them in the act, or in the building? Wash kind of has a terrible track record with cars. 8D

Catch them in the act? Definitely a possibility! (On the other hand, it's pretty hard to get run over by something with no wheels.) There'd probably be a bit more to worry about in terms of collateral damage, but getting the jump on some thugs who're in the process of trying to clean out a vault is a good time.

Aha, I didn't realize this post was the sign-up post. I'd like to sign Shima up! Open to pretty much anything, any time of scenario, single character or group.

He's also new to the superhero thing, though, so expectations might need to be set to low.

All right. What are you looking for the most in terms of flavor?

Or, maybe a better question, what do you think he'd actually involve himself with?

Things he actually can't ignore. If he's in the wrong place at the right time to get caught up in a robbery or a mugging or some kind of an attack/disaster that'll hurt him, too, or just make him look really bad for ignoring it (like there's other Legionnaires there, etc), he'll do something.

It's a little selfish, but he's a selfish kinda guy.

And like mentioned above, robberies, getting caught up in some kind of fight or minor disaster, or especially anything that involves helping out girls, that kind of stuff.

Is he an official member of the Legion? Sorry, it didn't sound like he was from the intro post and it's good to know these things before we get too far in.

He isn't in his intro log, but he joins up soon after that, so yes, he is.

Am I allowed to sign Greg up for stuff? He's not officially a part of Legion, but it'd be nice to get him involved in like... an unexpected disaster or something? Where his powers can come into use, quick healing and protection while getting caught out in public? I'd be open to sharing or single, either way.

Well, as an 'unofficial' Legionnaire, I'm not sure he'd be considered "on-call" like actual members. Not, necessarily, that the Science Police would know that he's not an actual Legionnaire, or that it would keep him from running into a situation. I'm waiting on confirmation on that from one of the K-levels.

Before I get too far into figuring things out, how long does it take for him to set up a safe zone? Does he need to actually play a song first? Does the zone start as soon as the song starts, or only when it ends?

I've been dithering on how much counts as a song in order to set up the protection... he can't get away with a couple strums on the guitar and that's it, so let's say at least 30 seconds of music are necessary before it kicks in.

The guitar's necessary? Noted. Does it protect only against actual damage or could it prevent people from, say, drowning?

Okay, with a thirty second start-up time, it probably can't be a sudden disaster like a construction accident or someone's auto-nav kicking up. At the moment I'm thinking something along the lines of an apartment fire or using his 'safe zone' to diffuse a gang fight of some kind. Or maybe a power failure at a zoo, leading to him needing to escort a visiting class to safety once the protective force fields are down.

What are you looking for in a short adventure?

Singing on it's own or other instruments could work, but as a personal habit he does better with a guitar.

Drowning...hmm. He would be able to prevent suffocation so long as they haven't hit the point where they've inhaled a bunch of water beforehand. But it's an incredibly uncomfortable process and wouldn't hold off damage from oxygen deprivation nearly as long; five minutes, instead of the usual fifteen.

What do you mean by what am I looking for? Like in terms of plot content, or tone, or something else?

Tone and plot content, yes! I don't know Steven Universe very well, but while I think I've got the general gist of Greg's character, I haven't seen enough of you to get a good read on just what you're into in terms of that kind of thing, y'know?

At the moment, I'm kind of leaning towards a zoo rescue or a fire, but it really depends on what you're going to enjoy doing. Flashplots are all about you, after all.

A zoo rescue sounds like a good thing to do; a good potential for danger, but also good for potential shenanigans and lightheartedness. I'm not looking for anything too heavy or serious. Also I can absolutely imagine Greg singing at children and/or animals to quell panic.

Okay, so. Greg's visiting the zoo, there's a batch of schoolchildren nearby, the power goes down, dropping the force fields and freeing the animals, and he has to escort them to either a safe spot or out of the zoo entirely.

Does that sound good?

I'd like to sign up Gwen for this! I have no real preference over what she'd be involved in, whether it's something incredibly mundane, or just joining up with someone else to save the day. I think it'd be fun if it was something... public or known so that her popularity can keep going on the rise.

How about a 'retro' cable car rescue while paired up with Shima?

Either they're paired together for some minor chore (picking up party supplies or something) or they're in a city for their own reasons, but not together, and an antique cable car's cables snap, sending it slamming into a building and blocking the car's doors, so the two of them have to team up to get the people out safely and make sure that the car's not going to fall on the streets below?

I'd like to sign up Aizawa for this. He's pretty much oriented to operate like a power-nullifying Batman/Spiderman, so whatever you think fits in that alley will probably be fine! Admittedly, I have a preference for him being extremely secretive, fighting in the shadows and taking down baddies one at a time in a slasher-movie format while trapping and snaring them for the authorities to pick up.

With or without company is cool! I'd just like for him to gain a mysterious reputation in which people generally have no idea who he is/what his modus operandi is...

Sorry for the delay. Things got out of hand for a little while.

How about throwing him up against a thief whose power is to create nearly impenetrable, frictionless barriers around himself? So he skids along at speed and any time someone tries to stop him with physical force, it just slides off. Does that sound like something that would fit what you want?

Okay, so. Someone steals a... I dunno, a prototype from a tech demo intending to sell it to the highest bidder, turns out that even the Science Police's energy weapons are ineffective, they request Legion backup, and Aizawa gets to have a chase scene with a guy using his fields to skate around on.

Should be short and sweet, if this sounds good to you. Feel free to ask for changes. I can have something up today or tomorrow if everything's kosher.
