IN BRIGHTEST DAY - Mod Plot [info post]
This is a pre-plot info post for the upcoming "In Brightest Day" plot. This info page has info on the various Lantern rings and how the rings select characters. More detailed ooc posts about the plot will be forthcoming, but this post will allow people to start deciding on rings for their characters for the plot.
BACKGROUND
The history of the corps and the war are somewhat complicated, but here are the basics. This info will ICly be provided by the Lanterns they meet.
✦ The Oans (the Green Lantern Corps founders) are some old alien dudes that were one of the oldest species in the universe. They lived on a planet called OA, the HQ of the GL Corps. The Oans were all about not having emotions and keeping order in the universe.
✦ When they decided emotions were a bad thing, their ladies left to form their own Amazon-like people, called the Zamarons. They went on to form the Star Sapphires (Violet Lanterns) and think love is the most powerful force in the universe.
✦ With the whole order obsession the Oans had, they created robots called Manhunters to police the universe. These robots went bugnuts and though the Oans eventually stopped them, they massacred every living thing in a whole galactic sector. Five survivors dedicated themselves to destroying the Oans because of the genocide and one of them, Atrocitus, eventually formed the Red Lantern Corps (the rage guys).
✦ The Oans eventually created the Green Lantern Corps to be space cops, giving them their rings, reasoning that sentients are less likely to go around killing without emotion and are easier to kill than robots if they try to. At one time they all got killed (thanks to Hal Jordan, long story, though this one tidbit of info wouldn't be passed to the characters) and the corps got destroyed except for one Lantern, but it got rebuilt and the Oans got revived and this time some were also lady Oans again.
✦ One Green Lantern, Thaal Sinestro, wasn't happy with the efforts of the Corp, thinking that the best way to keep order was to rule through fear and power. He was disbanded from the Corps and became a bad guy, and eventually formed the Yellow Lanterns, his Sinestro Corps. In his own twisted way, Sinestro thinks he's helping the universe by forcing the Green Lanterns to be more rigid and ruthless in enforcing order. He basically created a force of bad guys to try to toughen the good guys up.
✦ The Oans actually did start getting more ruthless and two of them, Ganthet and Sayd, disagreed with it. They were also in love, which the other Oans frowned on because EMOSHUNS, so they were exiled. They went off to form the Blue Lanterns (hope) which are not very powerful by themselves but get really powerful around Green Lanterns and are meant to help the corps that want to preserve life to actually do that.
✦ The Indigo Tribe (Indigo Lanterns) are very mysterious and comprised of some of the worst killers and sadists in the universe. Under the influence of the indigo light, they're very compassionate, but removed from it, they revert to their old personalities.
✦ A single Orange Lantern ring was once in possession of a being known as Larfleeze, but new ones have been made since then.
✦ A really nasty being named Nekron influenced a villain obsessed with death, named the Black Hand, into doing stuff to create a Black Lantern Corps, which was all zombie Lanterns. They wanted to end all life and even the yellow guys wanted to stop them.
✦ Depending on what color ring someone has, the light of their rings can potentially mentally influence the wielder. Some rings influence the wielder very little, some influence the wielder to the point of brainwashing.
✦ In the Legion's universe, all of this history happened, and there was a massive war between all the Corps. To avoid pointless collateral damage, the fighting was moved far away from the worlds that would later become the UP. Over the last 1000 years, all the different Corps all diminished and disappeared. Now Oa has disappeared, and no one knows if the Lantern Corps still exist, but there are rumors that the Central Power batteries that powered each Corps and the tattered remnants of each Corps may still exist on the edges of the galaxy. Only one Black Lantern ring is left in existence and it's currently hidden away.
✦ To start off the plot, a small group of Lanterns from each Corps will be pulled through the rift from an alternate universe where it's the 21st century and the war between the various Lanterns is currently ongoing. Their presence in the Legion's universe will trigger a new war between the remnants of the game universes' Lantern Corps, and the Legion will have to seek out the last remnants of the Green Lanterns to obtain power rings from various Corps that let them fight back against the more violent, evil Corps. Sinestro will feel that the Legion's no-kill policy means they're a weak law enforcement body and will try to reignite the war to force them to kill villains.
THE CORPS

In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil's might,
Beware my power...
Green Lantern's Light!
GREEN LANTERN CORPS
Group Leader: Kilowog
Recharging: The GLs have about an Earth day's worth of juice in their rings unless they're doing some heavy fighting. They recharge from little portable lanterns that channel from the power of the central battery
Background: The Green Lanterns are space cops given rings by the Oans. They are all about law and order and protecting the innocent and as a result, the Thin Green Line is the primary force opposing the Sinestro Corps and the Red Lanterns. The Oans have a book of rules of the Green Lantern Corps, that they've slowly been altering more and more to make the rules more and more ruthless. Their HQ was a planet called Oa, where the Oans resided. In the 31st century, in the game universe, Oa is gone and there are only rumors that the GLs exist on the edge of the galaxy. The alternate GLs that come through the rift will come from a universe and time where the war is still ongoing.
Rings/Powers: The green rings tap into the green light of the emotional spectrum and are powered by willpower. They have a variety of powers. The constructs the Lanterns can create are usually shaped by their imagination and personality (ie, a warrior might just use the constructs to supplement their fighting moves, a soldier might make theirs look like guns, an architect might have lots of complex parts in theirs.)
The green rings have an impurity where they are weak to yellow light unless the green Lantern is able to overcome their fear. Those who wield green rings are some of the least influenced by their rings.
Ring Selection
• Wielders have the capacity for great willpower, far beyond the average
• People with average willpower can forcibly wield a green ring, but it takes tremendous, exhausting effort and they can produce very little
• Wielders must have the ability to overcome great fear

In blackest day, in brightest night,
Beware your fears made into light
Let those who try to stop what's right,
Burn like his power... Sinestro's might!
SINESTRO CORPS (YELLOW LANTERNS)
Group Leader: Thaal Sinestro
Recharging: Same as the greens.
Background: Sinestro's Fear corps are comprised of individuals that have reputations for causing fear through brutality and violence and their rings tap into the yellow light of the emotional spectrum. They are incredibly brutal and do things like kill the family members Green Lanterns and torture and murder countless civilians. On their HQ and "pleasure planet" Ranx, they keep civilian prisoners to torture for fun.
As part of indoctrination, the yellows are forced to into a "fear lodge" with no power in their ring and have to spark it by facing their greatest fear. They can only cause proper fear in the universe by overcoming their own fears first. Then they are psychologically conditioned so they are obedient to Sinestro.
Rings/Powers: The yellow rings operate much like the green ones in creating constucts, but their power draws on how much fear they cause in others. If a Green Lantern gives into fear, they are weakened and the yellow rings can more easily breach their shields. The yellow rings also greatly influence their bearers to be more aggressive than they already are, though this can be fought. Yellow rings can be drained by blue rings.
Ring Selection
• Wielders must have a reputation or capacity for causing great fear
• The rings can sense this reputation even in another universe
• This reputation can be an unfair one, such as if someone is feared due to their species or feared by criminals because of their crime-fighting (ex: Batman)

For hearts long lost and full of fright,
For those alone in blackest night,
Accept our ring and join our fight,
Love conquers all-- with violet light!
STAR SAPPHIRES (VIOLET LANTERNS)
Group Leader: Miri Riam
Recharging: Same as the greens.
Background: The Star Sapphires were created by the Zamarons to help combat fear and death in the universe. They believe love is the most powerful force in the universe and their rings harness the power of the Star Sapphire, an artifact that essentially acts as their central power battery and is the crystallized love of the original Hawkman and Hawkwoman (two heroes that were kind of epicly known for their love).
Rings/Powers: Their rings channel the violet light of the emotional spectrum, which influences its users more than some of the other colors. Star Sapphires can sometimes get carried away in the course of preserving love, such as wreaking havoc on a planet to drive two lovers together. The Corps itself is also perfectly fine with brainwashing others. The more heartbroken someone is when selected, the more mentally influenced they are by the ring's power. The power of the Violet rings tends to manifest in crystal-like constructs and work similarly to green rings but have a few unique abilities:
• They can create crystals which can be used to imprison members of other Lantern Corps. Over time, the rings of the prisoners trapped in stasis within the crystals are infected with violet energy and are essentially brainwashed. After spending enough time inside, the prisoner will emerge as a Star Sapphire.
• The rings can also detect when a love is in jeopardy, locate it, and then create a connection to the embattled heart that can be used as a tether.
• Sapphires are also shown as being able to show others their greatest love.
• Unlike constructs created by Green Lanterns, Orange Lanterns cannot absorb those made by Star Sapphires.
• Star Sapphires appear to be able to teleport in order to escape attackers, while their energy constructs release a disorienting dust when destroyed. These two abilities can be combined effectively to avoid being pursued.
• Violet power rings have the ability to restore the recently deceased to life by drawing power from the heart of one that loves them. This only works if the loved one has a very deep love for them.
Ring Selection
• Wielders must be capable of great love, and/or have a desire to preserve love
• Though not always the case, violet rings often target users that have a "hole" in their hearts, due to the loss of a loved one, unrequited love, or some other heartbreak

In fearful day, in raging night,
With strong hearts full, our souls ignite,
When all seems lost in the War of Light,
Look to the stars-- For hope burns bright!
BLUE LANTERNS
Group Leader: Saint Walker
Recharging: Can recharge with the user's hope alone. No need for portable batteries.
Background: The Corps of blue light is unique among the corps in that its members are usually carefully chosen and trained, and are people from their worlds who are capable of feeling--and inspiring--great hope. For the sake of plot, these rings will be available without training.
Rings/Powers: The Blue Lantern rings do not create constructs. Instead they create miraculous feats by using the ambient hope of others, and influence other power rings. Like green rings, blue rings mentally influence their wielders very little. Abilities:
• Blue Lanterns can charge Greens even when their power batteries are nowhere nearby.
• Blue Lantern Rings are capable of depleting the energy of yellow rings.
• Blues can do amazing feats like de-aging dying suns if they have enough hope to use for it, like the hope of a population of a planet.
• Blues can heal Red Lanterns or those hit by ragespew of their rage infection by showing them a vision of their greatest hope to calm them.
• Blues can counteract the power of orange rings, including the side effects caused by its light on the wearer.
• Blues get a vision of the future to give them hope when they first receive their rings.
Ring Selection
• Wielders must have a reputation for inspiring hope or have an unshatterable sense of hope
• The rings can sense this reputation even in another universe

Tor lorek san, bor nakka mur,
Natromo faan tornek wot ur.
Ter Lantern ker lo Abin Sur,
Taan lek lek nok--Formorrow Sur!
INDIGO TRIBE (INDIGO LANTERNS)
Group Leader: Indigo-1
Recharging: The Indigo tribe use staffs that have no power of their own but can channel the power of other Lanterns and redirect it.
Background: The Indigo Tribe is largely comprised of murderers and sadists that have been influenced by the violet light to become compassionate. They are somewhat impartial in their dealings with the other Corps and speak a language only they understand. If something is a compassionate action to take, they will hurt and heal good and evil alike. The violet light heavily influences the wielders of violet staves to a degree akin to extreme brainwashing.
Rings/Powers: The Indigos have rings but these rings allow them to summon staves that they use to redirect the power of other corps. Abilities:
• Using their staves, Indigos are able to absorb and redirect the power of other power rings.
• While redirecting the light of a certain type of ring, the power can be used to do anything that native ring would normally be able to do
• If in an area with lots of ring activity by other types of Lanterns, they don't have to redirect a particular attack. They can simply channel the ambient ring energy to create constructs from all other types of rings in that area.
Ring Selection
• Wielders either have the capacity for great compassion OR are so horribly evil that the ring forcibly inverts their personalities to make them be compassionate

This power is mine, this is my light
Be it in bright of day, or black of night
I lay claim to all that falls within my sight
To take what I want, That is my right!
ORANGE LANTERNS
Leader/Only member: Larfleeze
Recharging: Same as the greens.
Background: For some time, the only Orange Lantern was a single alien, Larfleeze, but several new orange rings are available.
Rings/Powers: The power of the orange rings can absorb the energy/constructs of other Rings, except Blue and Violet rings (as it cannot absorb hope and is useless against love). The light of the orange ring overwhelms the mind of its wielder to make them obsessively greedy. Other abilities:
• The orange light has the ability to create orange light replicas, referred to as "constructs", based on the identities of those it kills.
Ring Selection
• Wielders must have the capacity for great greed

With blood and rage of crimson red,
Ripped from a corpse so freshly dead,
Together with our hellish hate,
We'll burn you all--That is your fate!
RED LANTERNS
Group Leader: Atrocitus
Recharging: Like the other Corps that have to recharge.
Background: These guys are powered by rage, usually because of a personal loss or some other reason that causes it a lot burning rage under the surface. To wear a red power ring is to be overtaken by the red light of rage, reducing the wearer to act on pure instinct, driven to kill and destroy with little reason or forethought
A red power ring operates by expelling the blood of the wearer, replacing it with red light. As a result, removing a Red Lantern's ring will result in the wearer's death. However, a Blue Lantern's ring can reverse this process, freeing the wearer from the ring. The combined powers of blue and green rings can destroy a red ring. Also, if the heart of the wearer fills with love, the rage gets compromised and the connection with the ring breaks, instantly destroying the ring, but the light of a Blue Lantern is still needed to heal the former Red Lantern, because his/her heart goes into cardiac arrest due to the lack of blood.
Rings/Powers: Red Lanterns use red power rings, fueled by the rage of their users and those around them. Abilities:
• The user's blood is replaced by a form of corrosive, rage-energized blood. The user can regurgitate this blood. The blood has the effect of bursting into flames of rage; the flames are so potent that they will burn even in space. The blood can melt through the constructs of other ring wielders, penetrate their personal force fields (sometimes burning them to death in the process), and corrupt their rings, depleting their energy at an accelerated rate.
• Though most red ring wielders are little more than beasts driven by rage, individuals with strong willpower are able to manipulate the energy to create constructs.
Ring Selection
• Wielders are those overwhelmed by rage
• This can be ongoing rage or the unfortunate rage of a single moment

The Blackest Night falls from the skies,
The darkness grows as all light dies,
We crave your hearts and your demise,
By my black hand, the dead shall rise!
BLACK LANTERNS
Recharging: The Black Lanterns do not have to recharge. They are powered by the emotions of those around them.
Background: The Black Lanterns were corpses reanimated by black power rings, which were fueled by the power of death and they absorb emotions to make themselves more powerful.
Only one black ring is currently still in existence.
Rings/Powers: Dark energy constructs. Black Lanterns are able to read the emotions as colored auras that correlate to the emotional spectrum and feed off of them.
Ring Selection
• Wielders must be dead (as such, only one character in the game can currently potentially wield a black ring)
ALLIANCES
In the plot, the Green, Violet, Indigo, and Blue Lanterns will be allied together, and allied with the Legion. The Reds and Yellows will be fighting against the other Corps and fighting against each other.
RING SELECTION
The plot will require characters to wield power rings, as their game powers will have difficulty affecting power ring shields and constructs.
At the beginning of the plot, only Green, Indigo, Violet, and Blue rings will be available to the characters. Any character that these rings don't fit can potentially wield a green ring just to have something, even if it'd be difficult to use.
In the course of the first battle, as Lanterns die and rings start seeking new owners, Yellow, Orange, Red, and Black rings will become available. Use of these rings, however, will have negative effects on their owners, and may potentially force their owners to fall under the thrall of their respective Corps, effectively turning them against the Legion for much of the plot. There will be opportunity for them to be freed later in the plot.
Characters can potentially change rings over the course of the plot, as different emotions have sway over them. Any decisions made here about power rings can be changed at any time (without needing to ask the mods permission). This is more a post for players to brainstorm what rings their characters might have.
In the comments below, you can discuss ring selection or ask the mods questions about Lantern rings.

MOD QUESTIONS
Re: MOD QUESTIONS
(Since the temporary destruction of the GLC is in the infodump...would Hal's part in that be part of it? Not that he's been secretive, but I figure it's good to know how many sideeyes he's in for.)

RING SELECTION
This is just to give the mods a general idea of what rings characters might go for so they can keep it in mind when building the plot.
Re: RING SELECTION
Judy's totally down for green.
Re: RING SELECTION
Nick is going to just not power ANY ring. Then he'll get a yellow because predators are feared, then ditch it and FORCE a green to work.
Dipper is going to start with a green and then switch to a yellow after he terrorizes the yellows with some Gravity Falls based constructs. Then bad things will happen.
Re: RING SELECTION
It's a theme with him, I have to.Re: RING SELECTION
Re: RING SELECTION
Sam fits green best, but I want to mix it up, so I may give him violet - family love and a big loss are important to his character too. (iirc there's been at least one canon example that was love but not romantic, so.) if I get a good chance he may go red, he's an angry kid, but only if I can make work well with what's happening.
Donnie idk. Green or indigo maybe.
