Proposition: Flashplots
Platinum here. I have a proposition that I'd like to field to the players of the game. I call them flashplots. Essentially, small moments of heroism.
What I'd like to propose is a system where a character (or a small group of characters) handles a small crime or crisis. Nothing world-shaking, more along the lines of responding to a bank robbery, stopping a runaway transporter full of explosives on a collision course with a bus full of kindly old nuns, or something like that. Think of a comic book where the hero resolves some minor emergency to familiarize any new readers with him before he gets started on the real story.
These flashplots will never be of worldshaking importance. They'll be designed to be over and done with in less than ten posts and, depending on mod energy, current game status, and interest, run several times a month. Very likely twice a week, but I can't make any promises on that.
I'm still working on some of the practical details. The current setup I'm considering is just having players sign their characters up, with a note on whether or not they'd be willing to do it as a group thing, a solo thing, or if they have specific partners in mind, then drawing a flashplot prompt (such as fire, flood, robbery, kidnapping, etc.) out of a hat, slapping up a post, and doing a quick tag session until it's done. I would be willing to handle these over instant messaging, edit them myself for post-worthiness, and posting them, but that would probably require some discussion with others.
If you're looking forward to having your character show up in an alley and have some thug go "Holy crem, it's Captain Mystery!!", then this is for you.
Players who sign up can request specific scenes for their flashplots. Results of flashplots may or may not make it into newsposts.
Side effects may include upset stomach, nausea, allergies, increased levels of testosterone, irritable bowel syndrome, kidney damage, and death. Do not participate in flashplots if you have been drinking recently, are pregnant, expecting to be pregnant, have ever been pregnant, have been near a pregnant person, or have been inside of a pregnant person. Talk to your moderator for more details.
