Touma has lead a very interesting life for a normal high school student. There are so many moments to choose from, but in the end I've decided to pick two; one from the original series and one from its currently ongoing sequel.
Weakest Vs. Strongest: Touma challenges Accelerator, the most powerful Esper in Academy City, in an effort to put a stop to the unethical experiments he was participating in. These experiments involved having Accelerator murder countless clones of Misaka, a fellow Level 5 Esper, in order to ascend to Level 6. As the base assumption of the experiment was the fact that he was the strongest, Touma hoped that having a Level 0 like himself defeat him would invalidate the experiments and have them called off.
With help of Misaka and her clones, Touma managed to defeat Accelerator and end the experiments. His memory will be altered to have Accelerator focus on killing Misaka and her clone once he downed Touma instead of ignoring them in favor of finishing him off with a flashy attack.
Perfect World: Magic God Othinus remakes the world into one without strife as a way to break Touma's will. She convinces him that in order for the world to remain happy he needed to commit suicide or else his very presence will cause it to collapse. Fortunately, his suicide attempt is thwarted by the Will of the Misaka Network borrowing the body of one the Sister clones. Unfortunately, his memory was altered so she doesn't appear. This leaves him at risk of completing his suicide unless someone intervenes.
